Fall?

I know the calendar says that autumn is officially here, but we're still limited to early morning and evening for outdoor time. Today we packed a picnic dinner and headed to the playground to enjoy every minute of the low 90's and eventually upper 80's temps. While there we discovered that Zoe is getting too big for the toddler swing. She wanted out immediately saying that it was for babies and wasn't fun. So instead she joined Sophie on the big swings. I was nervous at first, but she was just fine holding on. Now that Sophie can pump her legs, I forgot after awhile that I was pushing Zoe on the swing and realized that she was going very high. I peeked around at her face and could that she wasn't sure if she liked it. I slowed her down and apologized for pushing her too high. She said, "Maybe when I'm a little bit bigger I can go that high on the big swing. Next time you push me little mommy."

Lunch Date

Today while I was moving wardrobes around in my closet (bye bye skinny clothes, hello maternity clothes), the girls decided to try on some of my shoes. Of course, they needed matching purses because they were going on a date. Their plans were to have lunch and then see a movie. Oh yeah, they had to take a plane to get there, and they told me to have fun while they were gone.

Apple apples everywhere!

We've used our fresh apples to bake two different desserts. The other day, I got help from Grammy and the girls, and we baked a delicious Jewish apple cake. The girls did a great job measuring, pouring and stirring. Today we baked an apple crumb pie. I predict that we will be all appled out in another week or so, but at least our house smells good!

Apple Annie's

Today Grammy, the girls and I ventured down to Apple Annie's Orchards. The girls had fun riding on the tractor pulled wagon out to the orchards. We picked Fuji, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith apples. When it got too hot, we sat in the shade and enjoyed a few apples right off the tree. The girls had fun picking the apples that were low, and they even tried to use the apple picker to get some from higher up (with Grammy's help of course). Eventually we were all hot and tired, so we used their picnic tables to eat our lunch, then we headed home with about 8 lbs. of apples. Now we just need to decide what to make with them!

Day at Home

It's still hot and I'm still sick (how many weeks has it been now??) so yesterday the girls and I spent the day at home. We had our first try at making homemade play-doh, and it came out pretty good! This was the first time I let the girls help make something on the stove. It was a very low flame, but I still had to remind them to use the handle on the pot to keep it steady while they stirred since their inclination was to just put their hands on the base of the pot! Once it was cooled, they played with it for about an hour. That's one of the things I love about this age - increased attention spans! Sophie also has a new love for jig-saw puzzles. She can do a 25-piece puzzle all by herself. She will frequently spend an hour or more doing one puzzle after another, then taking them apart and doing them again. It's so fun to watch her develop these new skills!
